Preoperative NSAIDs Management

Sent on behalf of Dr. M. van der Vyver
See following regarding preoperative stop time for NSAIDs.

Why is this change needed ?
Up to now, patients were told to stop taking  all NSAID 7 days before surgery.
As the effect of most of these agents only last 1-2 days, this practice is unnecessary AND many patients report
that their pain increase in the period after stopping above.
Up to now ASA is not stopped, but evidence shows that it may increase bleeding without providing any benefit except for as a small number of cardiac patients.
This change in practice will align with practice at Bayview campus.
These recommendations were reviewed by Dr's Cass and Bansal.
