Ambulatory Nerve Block Infusion (Baby Bottle) Preparation

Disposable elastomeric infusion pumps are used for ambulatory nerve block infusion for prolonged analgesic in selected patients population e.g. ambulatory interscalene block. Our bottles hold 250ml and infuse at a rate of 5ml / hr for about 2 days.

Two commonly used concentrations:
  1. 250ml 0.2% Ropivacaine (i.e. 500mg Ropivacaine in 250ml) => draw up 100ml of 0.5% Ropivacaine and dilute it with 150ml NS
  2. 250ml 0.15% Ropivacaine (i.e. 375ml Ropivacaine in 250ml)  => draw up 75ml of 0.5% Ropivacaine and dilute it with 175ml NS
