We will be moving to extend the use of breathing circuits to 24h in most cases as of Nov 7.
What do Anes need to do at Bayview:
Assemble new viral filter at the patient Y with flex tube and mask (with supplies from the gas machine drawers or sterile core) in between cases
If there is no existing circuit attached, assemble circuit and perform leak test as per routine practice
What do Anes need to do at HC ?
Remove the “Clean” label from the machine whenever the circuit is used
Also - please remind the rest of the team re the practice changes !
When does circuits need to be changed ?
Discard entire circuit, bag and sample line if grossly soiled, or if patient is on any additional IPAC precautions (i.e. contact, droplet/contact, airborne)

Extended Use Circuits
Single patient use breathing circuits will transition to extended use circuits – changed q24 hrs.
New extended use circuits have an extra filter packaged for use at the patient wye.
No changes with the long blue circuits – this is single patient use for now.
