Regional Anesthesia Rotation Plan
FOCUS OF THIS ROTATION
Developing the knowledge and technical skills for the effective and safe conduct of common upper extremity and, lower extremity peripheral nerve blocks, trunk blocks neuraxial anesthesia, and associated conscious sedation. Residents will gain knowledge of relevant anatomy, sonoanatomy, ultrasound use procedural skills for both anesthesia and analgesia, as well as knowledge related to the diagnosis and management of complications related to regional anesthesia.
CBD stage for this rotation: Core of Discipline (CoD)
Length of this rotation: 1 block
PGY Level for this rotation: PGY3, PGY4, PGY5
Other training experiences included in this rotation:
✓ Exposure to and conduct of regional anesthesia procedures according to the clinical range at the hospital site.
✓ Pre-procedure patient counseling for choice of anesthesia and/or analgesia technique and informed consent
✓ Post-procedure patient follow-up, including diagnosis and management of complications of regionalanesthesia
✓ In additional to technical skills, knowledge will be gained of the following procedures:
▪ Upper extremity blocks, including: interscalene , supraclavicular , infraclavicular and/or axillary brachial plexus block
▪ Lower extremity blocks, including: femoral nerve block, adductor canal block, sciatic
block, popliteal block and/or ankle block
▪ Trunk blocks
▪ Neuraxial anesthesia: spinal, lumbar epidural, ombined spinal-epidural
▪ Advanced: Continuous peripheral nerve blocks
