Criteria For Peripheral Nerve Block For Burn Injuries

Peripheral nerve catheters have been in use in RTBC since summer 2022. There have been a handful of catheters inserted without any issues. After discussion at Pain Committee and in consultation with APS NPs, see below for inclusion and exclusion criteria:

Inclusion criteria:

• Persistent pain expected i.e. repeated dressing changes or repeated ORs
• Isolated to single limb
• Spontaneous ventilating / extubated

Exclusion criteria:

• Mechanically ventilated
• Uncontrolled infection/sepsis
• Catheter placement in wound site
• Lack of patient consent
• Coagulopathy** - at the discretion of regional anesthesiologist
