PCOA (Patient controlled oral analgesic)

This is currently in practice at HOAC. As per Eri Maeda, the feedback is that it is fairly time consuming to teach patients how to use it and how to document on the sheet. There is not a barrier for nurse administered opioids when needed.

PCOA is best considered for patients who are planning for longer stays at HOAC (i.e. 4-7days), which is not typical of our arthroplasty patients.
